Aldi Goes Head To Head With Spotify By Launching Music Streaming Site

Aldi Nord and Aldi Süd have joined forces to launch a new music streaming service in Germany, in cooperation with Napster.

Aldi Life, which is the first service of its kind from a German supermarket, will feature some 34 million songs, as well as ready-made playlists, 4,000 radio stations from around the world and more than 10,000 audiobooks.

The service is being priced at €7.99 for 30 days, cheaper than other music streaming offerings, and is being initially pitched at users of the Aldi Talk mobile telephony service.

Music streaming revenue in Germany shot up in the first half of the year, rising 87% year on year.

Aldi has not indicated whether it plans to rollout Aldi Life into other markets.
