Aldi Kerpen Celebrates Its 40th Anniversary

Aldi Kerpen, in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, celebrated its 40th anniversary last week by hosting a family festival attended by 3,000 guests.

Aldi Kerpen opened in October 1976 as the 12th regional branch of Aldi Süd, which is represented by 31 regional branches today.

“It was a delightful and colourful afternoon, well enjoyed by young and old,” said the chief executive of Aldi Kerpen, Eckhard Otte. “Even the weather was game.”

Starting out with 27 stores in 1976, Aldi Kerpen now counts 51 stores, which carry a regular stock of over 1,200 articles.

Today, Aldi Süd’s 31 regional branches operate more than 1,860 stores in West and South Germany and the Aldi Süd Group trains and employs over 40,000 people.
