Avril And Tönnies Form l’Atelier Des Viandes

The French meat-producer Groupe Avril, which supplies Carrefour and other France-based retailers, will join forces with German food-producing giant Tönnies, which specialises as a butcher and meat processor, to form the company l’Atelier des Viandes, LSA-Conso.fr reports.

The new company, which will only serve the French market, will come into being on April 1. It is the product of a combined investment of €5 million on the parts of Tönnies and Groupe Avril, the parent company of both Abera and Sanders.

The company’s meat will be supplied by Porc Armor Evolution, which does business in 15 départments.

“The creation of this new firm is a strong sign not just for Avril and its subsidiary Abera, but for the national meat sector as a whole,” said Fabrice Chapelle, director general of Abera, in a recent press release.

“Since 2013, France has imported more pork than it has exported. This project combines the quality of French meat with some German expertise to help recover some of the market share lost in recent years by French pork.”
