Dairy UK Outlines Strategies For Sector's Global Growth

Dairy UK, a trade association for UK dairy farmers and producers, has outlined the strategies that it considers crucial to the sector's global growth following the Brexit vote.

Considering exports the mainstay of the dairy industry, one of the main priorities included keeping access to the EU market. This involves protecting existing trade agreements and developing new free-trade agreements, preventing border issues in Northern Ireland, and working closely with the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).

"The Brexit referendum set the country on an unexpected course. The negotiations with the European Union will be complex, however, food and drink exports are a crucial part of our economy, and we must make sure the government uses all of its resources to promote and boost trade," said Neil Parish, MP and chairman of the Defra Select Committee.

Dr Judith Bryans, chief executive of Dairy UK, commented, "In spite of the uncertainty created by the Brexit negotiations, the UK dairy industry is ready to rise to the challenge and strengthen its position as a global dairy player."
