Anuga 2015: The Greatest Show On Earth

EXHIBITORS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD ARE EXPECTED TO TAKE PART IN THE MOST IMPORTANT AND BIGGEST SUMMIT MEETING OF THE INTERNATIONAL FOOD INDUSTRY: ANUGA 2015, WHICH OPENS ITS DOORS TODAY AT KOELNMESSE AND WILL RUN FOR FIVE DAYS.

In mid-June, organisers of the Anuga trade show announced that due to capacity restrictions, a number of food and drink manufacturers from various European countries would have to be placed on a waiting list if they wished to exhibit this year.

Four months out from the event, Anuga had already thrown up the ‘fully booked’ sign on its front door. When you consider the size of the event – ten separate trade shows under one roof, covering a staggering 284,000 square metres of exhibition floor space – the fact that it booked out so far in advance gives you a clear picture of the popularity and importance of this global showcase of the latest food and drink innovations.

Held in Cologne every two years and organised by Koelnmesse, one of the world’s four largest trade-fair companies, Anuga presents the entire spectrum of the international offer of food and drinks, bringing supply and demand together, helping to sharpen each sector’s profile and generate powerful synergies at the same time.

Hardly any other sector sees as many innovations and new trends as the food and drink industry does each year, making Anuga a must-attend event for industry executives at all levels.

Conveniently located parking facilities, train stations and airports make the venue easily accessible.

DECISION-MAKERS

As a central business and communications platform, Anuga unites suppliers and decision-makers from ten different food segments, including bread and bakery, hot beverages, chilled and fresh foods, dairy, drinks, fine food, foodservice, frozen food, meat, organic products and retail technology.

The fair will include more than 6,800 exhibitors from more than 100 countries, ready to do business with approximately 155,000 trade visitors from nearly 100 countries.

This year’s show theme is ‘Taste the Future’, and with that in mind, attendees will be able to gain insight into the future of the global food industry. They will return to their home countries with answers to such questions as: What’s going to sell? What trends are emerging? What will be the next big ethnic influence? Where in the world does my business have the best potential?

Anuga is a trade show like no other because it is where innovators go in order to stay at the forefront of the increasingly competitive global food industry. According to the organisers, this yearAnuga is again the decisive informational and sourcing platform for international food enterprises and retail buyers.

HIGH STANDARDS

With this year’s edition of Anuga expected to be the biggest yet, it is interesting to look at post-event facts and figures from its last staging, in 2013, surely to be surpassed this year. At Anuga 2013, a total of 6,777 exhibitors (international, 5,952; Germany, 825) took part from 98 countries, with almost 4,000 hailing from Europe, over 1,200 from Asia, and the remainder from Africa, America and Australia.

In terms of visitors, a total of 154,642 from 187 countries passed through the doors of Anuga two years ago. Almost 70,000 were from Europe, 16,000 from Asia, and over 11,000 from the United States.

Unsurprisingly, the overall assessment of visitors was overwhelmingly positive, with 79.7 per cent giving it a firm thumbs-up. Elsewhere, 84.9 per cent of attendees agreed that Anuga provided an excellent range of products, while the top exhibitor countries (in order, excluding Germany) were: Italy, Spain, China, France and Turkey.

Arguably the most telling statistic to emerge from the last event was that some 94 per cent of those surveyed at the event agreed that ‘there is no better food fair than Anuga’. A tough act to follow, perhaps, but one for which the organisers are more than prepared.
