DS Smith Announces Carbon Disclosure Project Achievements

UK packaging provider DS Smith has announced what it describes as a ‘hat-trick of excellent results’ in this year’s Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), an independent sustainability benchmarking platform.

According to the company, DS Smith achieved a score of ‘Management B’ in the CDP Climate Change module, and ‘Leadership A-’ in both the Water and Forests sections.

“This year's score of 'Management B' recognises the 8.1% reduction in CO2e per tonne of production we achieved this past year,” said Mark Greenwood, Group Sustainability Director. “It demonstrates that the company is not just talking the talk, but we are also walking the walk.”

In its own Sustainability Review 2016, DS Smith reported a 13.4% reduction in effluent water discharged per tonne compared to last year.

‘Water is a particularly complex issue as it is not just about quantity of water used, but also the quality of the water when it is returned to the ecosystems,’ the company said.
