El Corte Inglés Announces Significant Reduction In Energy Consumption

Spain's El Corte Inglés reduced its energy consumption by 35% during the 2008-2015 period, the company has revealed. The goal was part of its environmental plan.

As reported by ElEconomista.esthe Spanish retail giant also achieved important reductions in its consumption of water and lowered its CO2 emissions.

Part of the success in energy-saving is thanks to the incorporation of new lighting techniques around its merchandising displays. Measures implemented to optimise chilled areas have allowed El Corte Inglés to save up to 50% more energy.

Regarding greenhouse-gas emissions, the company has reported a reduction of 31% over the last seven years. In 2015 alone, this represented a saving of 2,839.64 tonnes of CO2.

El Corte Inglés has also increased the proportion of its energy coming from renewable sources, which now accounts for 28%.
