Grape Harvest Expected To Be Down This Year, Says Copa-Cogeca

European agricultural organisation Copa-Cogeca has forecast a fall in grape harvest in 2016, compared with last year’s production levels.

However, it added that even if the crop quantity decreases due to bad weather conditions across the continent, the quality may remain at a high level.

According to the group, Italy will remain the leading European producer, with a slight drop in the size of its harvest - 50.3 mhl compared to 51.5 mhl in 2015.

In other European countries, weather conditions have also significantly affected production. In particular, the French harvest will decrease by 12% and Portuguese production is estimated to drop by 20%.
