Rias Baixas Wine Exports Grow By 5%

The Rias Baixas D.O. closed its 2015 period by making history, having produced a total of 20.34 million litres of wine; a five per cent increase over the previous period.

As reported by Spanish newspaper farodevigo.es, these figures reinforce and consolidate producers’ efforts to expand their market, according to the suggestions proposed by Escuela de Negocios Afundación.

The president of the regulative body, Juan Gil de Araujo, pointed out that these figures reflect the effort of a sector that produces high quality wine.

This trend is also reflected in the international market, where Rias Baixas’ wines grew 7.6 per cent by volume, reaching 7.7 million bottles. Exports represent over 28 per cent of the total of wine produced in Rias Baixas.

A total of 97 cellars, of the 193 that adhere to the D.O., have marketed their wines in at least one of the six markets where the regulatory committee has targeted its export strategy (United States, United Kingdom, Mexico, Ireland, Benelux and Japan) or in any other where the committee organises specific promotional actions such as Switzerland, China or Canada.
