Unilever, Colgate-Palmolive, Coca-Cola Named Among Gartner 'Global Supply Chain Leaders'

A number of leading FMCG firms have been named in the 11th annual Supply Chain Top 25 list, compiled by Gartner Inc. to recognise global supply-chain leaders.

Unilever (3rd), Colgate-Palmolive (9th), Coca-Cola (11th), PepsiCo (15th), Nestlé (17th), Kimberly-Clark (20th) and L'Oréal (22nd) were named in the list, which was announced at the Gartner Supply Chain Executive Conference in Phoenix, USA.

The list is headed up by Amazon, with McDonald's in second place.

"2015 marks the 11th year of our annual Supply Chain Top 25 ranking," said Stan Aronow, research vice-president at Gartner. "In this edition of the Supply Chain Top 25, we have several long-time leaders with new lessons to share and a number of more recent entrants from the high-tech, consumer products, retail and industrial sectors."

Key trends identified by Gartner as indicating supply-chain excellence in 2015 include: a) the emergence of 'bimodal' supply-chain strategies, b) increased customer intimacy, and c) emerging digital business models.

Aronow added that P&G (along with Apple) is absent from the list, with Gartner instead designating these two firms in a separate 'Masters' category.

"This year we are introducing a brand-new category to highlight the accomplishments and capabilities of long-term leaders," he said. "We are, therefore, recognising those companies that have consistently had top-five composite scores for at least seven out of the last ten years and placing them into a 'Masters' category, separate from the overall Supply Chain Top 25 list.

"In this the inaugural year for supply-chain masters, we want to recognise two companies demonstrating sustained leadership: Apple and P&G."
