Walmart Not To Reveal Pay Details

Walmart has succeeded in arresting a shareholder vote which would have required the chain to publish detailed information about its pay scales.

A no-action document written by the US Securities and Exchange Commission has given Walmart the freedom to maintain a policy of non-disclosure regarding the difference between what it pays its men and women.

If it weren't for the letter, the retailer would have had to reveal what it pays workers of each gender at each echelon of its pay scale.

Cynthia Murray, who has worked for Walmart for 15 years, filed the request that Walmart become transparent in this manner, commenting that if it did not comply "reputational damage" could ensue.
