Konzum to Open 10 New Supermarkets in Bosnia in 2016

Croatia-based retailer Konzum plans to open 10 new supermarkets in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2016, taking the total to 270.

After merging with peer Mercator earlier this year, Konzum BiH (owned by food-to-retail consortium Agrokor) currently operates a total of 260 stores in 69 cities, employing 4,500 people.

In an interview to local portal eKapija, the director of Konzum BiH, Adnan Steta, said that Konzum’s private label brand currently consists of over 1,900 products and accounts for almost 60% of the brand market in the country.

Konzum BiH recently introduced the “Tradicija Mog Kraja” private label that consists of over 30 products from 37 local suppliers.

Konzum BiH continues to focus on supporting local producers and currently more than 8,000 Bosnian products from 500 different brands can be found on the shelves of Konzum BiH stores.

In addition, over the past two years, nearly €50 million of Bosnian goods has been distributed through Agrokor’s retail network in Croatia and Serbia, where around 800 products can be found in local stores.

According to Steta, Konzum BiH has over 300,000 users for its loyalty card program.
Steta expects the Bosnian retail market to stabilize in 2016, with an additional focus on quality, after a difficult year that saw the closure of several retail chains.
