Lidl UK Adds 40 French Wines To Portfolio

Forty additional French, mostly low-cost wines have been temporarily added to Lidl UK’s wine portfolio, thetelegraph.co.uk reports.

Ben Hulme, its head wine-buyer, selected these from over 3,000 wines made available by Lidl’s German headquarters. In total, he purchased one million bottles – between 6,000 and 60,000 of each. The stocks of these will not be renewed when they are exhausated.

Commenting on the limited-availability wines, Hulme said, “I didn’t just want obvious wines. I wanted to feel there was some real depth and points of interest.”

Among the critically regarded brands which will retail at under £10 are Domaine de Peyronnette 2014 Monbazillac (£7.99), Fiefs des Comelias Reuilly Cuvée Prestige 2014 (£8.99), and Serabel Côtes du Rhône Villages Chusclan 2014 (£5.99).
