Monoprix’s Schultz Named President Of Union des Commerces de Centre-Ville
Régis Schultz, President of French retailer Monoprix, has been made the president of the Union des Commerces de Centre-ville, a body which fights for brick-and-mortar retail in urban areas in France.
He succeeds Stéphane Maquaire, the president of Vivarte, in the role, LSA.fr reports.
Maquaire, who began his career with Pernod Ricard, in a statement said that bricks-and-mortar French retailing is “threatened by constrictive regulations” – a problem he maintains is exacerbated by the new “tsunami of e-commerce.”
“Social and fiscal restraints are giving an [unfair] advantages to digital channels. We need to revise rules regarding days and times when retail units may open, as well as taxation on floor space in urban-zone shops.”
