Organic Food Sales at Finland’s K-Group Expected To Grow By 10% This Year
Finland’s K-Group has said that it expects sales of organic food products at its stores to grow by 10% this year.
Currently, there are some 2,000 organic products available in the group’s stores, which together account for around 1.6% of sales. However at some K-food stores, this percentage is as high as 7%.
Organic food products are mostly purchased by consumers in coastal municipalities, according to a recent survey carried out among K-Plussa customers.
The biggest organic product groups at K-food stores are vegetables, fruits, dairy products, eggs and spices, however there has been recent growth in the sales of organic beers.
“Organic producers are seldom large or nation-wide operators, because organics trade is more of a local industry, said Jyrki Karlsson, the director responsible for fresh products. “Therefore, organic products, too, are purchased by K-food retailers directly from local operators.”
