Rémy Cointreau To Buy Seattle Distillery's Assets

In a move that is expected to be finalised before 2016 is through, Rémy Cointreau announced on Thursday that it has agreed terms to purchase the assets of the Westland Distillery, adding a high-end, single-malt product to its portfolio.

The Seattle whiskey-maker was crowned ‘World Craft Producer of the Year’ by Whisky Magazine. Its three marquee drinks are its American Single Malt Whiskey, Peated Malt, and Sherry Wood whiskies.

The distillery occupies ‘one of the world’s best possible climates for barley,' the Rémy group says. 'Westland crafts a truly authentic single malt whiskey with a sense of place.'

‘The distillery is firmly committed to pushing the category of single malt whiskey forward by utilising new varietals of barley and oak, exploring concepts such as terroir, and championing distinctiveness. In addition, Westland is at the vanguard of the growing American single malt whiskey movement that aims to secure a firm description for the category in the United States and abroad.’

The French drinks company posted 4.1% growth on an organic basis for the six months ending 30 September, with €513.4 million consolidated sales.
