Spain Now Second EU Country Allowed To Export Pork Meat To Mexico

Sanitary authorities in Mexico have green-lighted Spanish fresh pork-meat exports, as reported by the Spanish Ministry for Agriculture, Food and the Environment.

The development occurred after a Mexican delegation visited Spain in 2014, with the purpose of observing Spanish standards for controlling and traceability.

After a long negotiation process, the Mexican government has finally approved Spanish fresh pork exports.

This makes Spain the second EU country to be allowed into this market, after Denmark.

Twelve Spanish companies have been approved by the Mexican authorities.

Mexico is a big importer of pork meat, bringing around 750,000 tonnes of it into the country every year, mainly from the United States and Canada.

Spain exports pork and pork products to 104 countries.
