Spanish Cantaloupe Exports Equal 20 Per Cent Of Global Total

One in every five cantaloupes exported in 2015 came from Spain, according to figures from the United Nations Statistics Division and COMTRADE.

As reported on the website hortoinfo.es, the global volume of cantaloupe exports reached 2,239.2 million kilos.

Of that total, 434.7 million kilos were Spanish exports, 392.71 from Guatemala and 230.49 from Honduras. These three countries together account for nearly half of the world's cantaloupe exports.

Brazil holds fourth place with 223.75 million kilos, followed by the United States with 173.56 million kilos.

Spain is also the country that achieved the largest income from cantaloupe sales last year with a total of €268.6 million, out of a global total of €1,495.17 million.

Regarding export destination, Spanish cantaloupes go mainly to France, Germany, the UK, the Netherlands and Portugal.
