Spanish Lime Production Fell By 30 Per Cent In 2015

Spanish lime production reported a decrease of 30 per cent in production in 2015 compared to 2013, a year in which it reached 1.1 million tonnes.

As reported by freshplaza.es, the reason for the poor performance of Spanish lime in 2015 was related to bad weather conditions.

The season was deemed 'abnormal and exceptional, in volume and in price' according to spokespersons from Ailimpo, Spain's Interprofessional Association of Lime and Grapefruit.

This decrease in production caused a reduction in the offer on export markets, which experienced a drop of 21 per cent in volume, reaching 530,000 tonnes.

Contrasting with this decline, income from exports of Spanish lime grew by 15 per cent during the same period, reaching €640 million. Germany remains as the main destination for Spanish limes, followed by France, UK, Italy and Poland.
