Spar UK Increases Private-Label Wine Offering

Spar UK is set to capitalise on the burgeoning global demand for Malbec, the grape varietal made popular around the world by Argentinian producers, by expanding its range of private-label wines, The Grocer has reported.

This will entail augmenting its own-label viticultural offering by seven wines. Among these will be a Malbec Rios de los Andes, from Argentina, and a second Malbec, which comes from France (where the varietal originated).

The Malbecs join the other new additions to Spar's own wine offering: a Rosé d'Anjou, a Verdejo Rueda D.O. (Castillo de la Mota), Les Deux Roches (of the appellation Muscadet Sur Lie Sèvres et Maine), a Verdicchio Classico, and a Valpolicella Ripasso.

These wines generally retail between £7 and £10 in the United Kingdom.

The Spar licensed trading director for its British division, commented, “The Spar team has worked hard to transform the wine range for our business, and while we have had some great success, now is the time to introduce some further interest for our customers and allow them greater choice.

“Designed to provide shoppers with some exciting new varietals, as well as some firm favourites, these wines will give our stores a real point of difference locally,” he added.
