Swedish Retailers More Pessimistic About Retail Sector, Study Finds

A study by the Swedish Trade Federation has found that retailers in the country are slightly pessimistic about the prospects for the wider retail sector, however are confident of their own business' performance.

The study found that when asked about the future profitability of the trade as a whole, expectations had lowered by 1.6%. However, when asked about the future profitability of their own store, expectations rose by 0.3%.

Jonas Arnberg, chief economist at the Swedish Trade Federation, said that while sales expectations for the sector are still high, lower profitability expectations in the sector could affect employment.

Elsewhere, the Federation noted that online sales in Sweden are on the increase, rising by 40% in FY 2015 and by 32% in Q1 2016.
