Tetra Pak To Deliver More Than 100 Million Fully Renewable Packages in 2016

Tetra Pak has announced that it expects to deliver more than 100 million packs of Tetra Rex Bio-based to customer in 2016.

The package is made entirely of plant-based materials and was initially launched in January 2015. Since then, it has grown in popularity across Finland, Sweden and Norway, where it is used by brands such as Valio, Arla Foods, Vermlands Mejeri and TINE.

TINE are the most recent company to use the package, and Bjørn Malm, its Head of Corporate Responsibility, commented that the company wants to grow sustainably not only because it is good for environment, but also because it helps with competitiveness and provides product differentiation.

"Thanks to Tetra Rex Bio-based we have been able to take a significant step towards our own environmental goals and have committed to making all our milk cartons renewable from next year," he said.

The product was awarded seven awards last year for its environmental profile, including first place in the Sustainable Innovation category at the Ethical Corporation Responsible Business Awards.

He added: "This is a significant milestone in Tetra Pak’s long term ambition to provide 100 per cent renewable packaging across our product portfolio."
