Turkish Hazelnuts Top List of 'Dangerous' Foods

Italian farmers association Coldiretti has published a list of what it has described as 'dangerous foods', using data from Italy’s Ministry of Health.

This data is based on Europe’s alert system, which registers food risk alarms occurred due to chemical residues, mycotoxins, heavy metals, microbiological contaminants, dioxins, additives and dyes.

Topping the list are hazelnuts from Turkey, followed by peanuts from China, followed by chilli pepper and other spices from India.

The list also includes tuna/swordfish from Spain; dried figs/peppers from Turkey; sesame seeds from India; pistachios from Iran; olives and strawberries from Egypt; pistachios from the US; and pangasius from Vietnam.

It is worth pointing out that the foods on the list are not dangerous to eat, but rather are at most risk of contamination.

According to Coldiretti, Italian food products are almost 22 times more secure than those coming outside the EU in terms of the content of chemical residues.
