2012 Will Be A Tough Year - Nestlé

2012 will be a tough year due to sluggish growth in the developed world, said Nestlé, following the release of its quarterly results. Accounting for 40 per cent of group sales, emerging markets grew 13 per cent compared to growth of 3.1 per cent in its developed markets. Volume growth fell by 0.4 per cent in the US and rose 0.2 per cent in Europe.

The group reported a slight deceleration in quarterly sales growth. However, the results still beat forecasts with price increases contributing to higher growth than predicted by analysts.

"As anticipated, 2012 is already confirming itself to be a challenging year," said Nestlé chief executive Paul Bilche. Nestlé predicted a "likely improvement raw materials environment" in the second half of the year. (25 Apr)
