Demand For Hygiene Products Decline In Germany: Report

The demand for select hygiene products and food items in Germany has declined since the second partial lockdown came into effect on 2 November, according to a report in rundschau.de.

The sales of hygiene products such as soap, disinfectants and toilet paper, were significantly lower in the two weeks between 2 November and 14 November 2020 (45th and 46th calendar week) compared to the two previous weeks.

Toilet paper sales fell slightly below the pre-crisis average (-13%) in the second week of November (46th calendar week), the report said citing data from Destatis (Federal Statistical Office).

In comparison, the demand for toilet paper in the 44th calendar week was almost twice as high (+84%) as the average for the pre-crisis months of August 2019 to January 2020.

In the 46th calendar week, the demand for selected food also returned to normal, with a significant decline in the sales of pasta, baking ingredients such as flour, sugar and yeast compared to the 44th calendar week, the report added.
