Food Matters Live 2019: The Latest In Food Innovation, Future Trends

From innovative ingredients, disrupter brands, future trends and sustainable packaging, there’s something on the menu for everybody at Food Matters Live 2019.

Food and drink professionals cannot afford to miss this event, which will showcase new healthy, natural and clean label ingredients, introduce future UK and international brand innovators, highlight future retail trends, and turn the spotlight on sustainability and innovative packaging solutions.

The two-day event will be held on 19 and 20 November at ExCeL London.


The main exhibition, Food Matters Live 2019, will host the largest gathering of ingredients companies in the UK, showcasing the latest innovations in food, drink, nutraceutical, and functional product development.

Participants will get the opportunity to discover cutting-edge ingredient ideas for addressing NPD challenges, brand new functional ingredients and a host of clean-label, sugar- and calorie-reduction solutions.

Innovative Ingredients Live is scheduled to return in 2019 with an exciting live theatre programme of events, featuring international industry experts and nutritionists showcasing, amongst other things, nutritional science, emerging ingredients and nutraceuticals.

Speakers include Mike Bagshaw, owner and founder of International Taste Solutions.

Topics of discussion include new sugar-reducing technologies and their role in cutting the sugar content in food and beverages by up to 50%, with no impact on the flavour or texture.

Visitors will also get to know how the team at Rebel Chocolate used some truly innovative technology to develop chocolate with 50% less sugar and 25% less protein than conventional brands.

Future Brands

A curated blend of creative food and drink producers at Food Matters Live 2019 will showcase their innovative products, with themed areas including start-ups, healthy snacking and drinks, free-from and sports nutrition.

Kool Organics will be introducing Rosie & Riffy, its plant-based, 100% dairy-free, organic and vegan cheese alternatives.

The team from the award-winning Bug Farm Foods, which produces innovative and unique products made with insect protein, will also be present at the event.

Also participating in this year's edition is Jacked Fruits, a company that imports exotic fruits from Uganda and works towards economic development and environmental sustainability in the country.

The Plant-Based Pavilion will showcase new, inspiring and 100% vegan products. In the International Brands and Country Pavilions, companies from around the world will be demonstrating a host of products and ingredients.

New Vegan And Free-From Trends

The Retail Trends live theatre is a new addition to the event, which will bring together the perspectives of retailers, high street food outlets, foodservice providers and manufacturers, in a lively series of debates looking at how the industry is responding to the growth of the free-from and vegan consumer.

Food Matters Live 2019 has invited industry experts from the UK’s leading companies to share their thoughts and perspectives on these new consumer trends.

The speakers include Claire Nuttall, founder of The Brand Incubator; David Mulcahy, food development and innovation director at Sodexo; Elen Ormson, partner and health brand manager of Waitrose; Grace Coates, free-from buying manager for Asda; Emma Adams, head of technical at Greggs; Caroline Ottoy, food service director at Planet Organic; Claire Richardson, product developer of Plant Kitchen for M&S and Victoria Robertson, senior innovation leader at KFC.

Packaging Innovations

Food Matters Live 2019 will also bring together an inspirational line-up of industry experts, innovators and forward thinkers for this year’s seminar programme.

There will be six seminar streams, providing an in-depth and insightful look into the broader issues facing the global food and drink industry, including debates, case studies and global innovations around sustainable packaging.

Thanks to the Blue Planet effect, the effect of plastics and packaging waste is genuinely on the global agenda, and Food Matters Live 2019 has invited speakers at the cutting edge of the race to create sustainable packaging systems and solutions.

The thought-provoking and exciting seminar stream will include inspiring case studies from Jimmy’s Iced Coffee, which aims to be plastic-free by 2020, and a talk by Julian Hunt, from Coca-Cola, who will outline how the company is working to recycle all its packaging.

Elsewhere, Cait Murray, the co-founder of Cuan Tec, will speak about innovative technology that turns waste langoustine shells into recyclable food packaging, while Damien Lee, co-founder of Solublue, will share the story of his biodegradable cups and straws that start to breakdown as soon as they are thrown away.
