A total of 55 per cent of Spanish consumers eat ice cream at least once a week during the summer.
This is according to a study about consumers' ice cream purchasing habits published by Frigo and reported by efeagro.com. Frigo is Unilever's Spanish ice cream division.
According to the report, 18.8 per cent of respondents eat ice cream every day, 33.3 per cent consume it one or two times a week, 36.2 per cent said they eat it "every now and then, while 8.7 per cent keep it for special occasions only.
According to Diana Roig of Frigo, this shows that ice cream is "included more and more often in the daily eating habits".
Regarding reasons for purchase, seven out of ten Spanish consumers consider having ice cream as "taking a break", 14.1 per cent eats one on stressful days to calm down and 8.1 per cent considers that ice cream helps them overcome a bad mood.
To adapt to this consumers' preferences, Frigo has said that it's working on smaller formats that are easier to consume.
Chocolate is still the favourite flavour (37.9 per cent), followed by vanilla (15.6 per cent), lemon (10.1 per cent), cream (9.9 per cent) and strawberry (7.1 per cent).
