Italy's Nova Coop Pilot Tests Home-Delivery Service

Italian regional cooperative Nova Coop is testing its first home-delivery service for online orders, reports the Torino Repubblica.

The Coop a Casa service has been introduced in Turin and the municipalities of Collegno, Grugliasco, and Rivoli.

The digital shop offers over 9,000 references from the grocery, fresh produce, and pre-packaged departments of the hypermarket.

Customers can also buy products that are on promotion.

The Process

After registering their credentials, customers have the option of filtering items by product line or brand name and filling their virtual shopping carts.

The home-delivery service costs €4.90 for cooperative members, and €7.90 for regular customers.

The price includes the organising customer's purchases, transporting the items in vans with different temperature settings, and doorstep delivery.

Until 16 June, delivery will be free for orders over €50. People with disabilities will be able to avail free delivery of one shopping item per week.

However, the collection of online shopping is free of charge when using the Coop Drive service.

Collection Points

Besides Beinasco, the retailer has recently opened a second pickup point in Turin (Corso Rosselli) spanning an area of 2,700 square metres that can handle around 300-400 orders per day.

Customers can pick up their orders from the collection points two hours after the conclusion of the order. For home-delivery services, orders are processed as a next-day delivery at a time chosen by the customer.

Both Coop a Casa and Coop Drive are available seven days a week.

Nova Coop also sends an SMS alert to customers 15 minutes before the delivery of the goods.

Esselunga, Auchan, and Carrefour also provide similar services in Turin.

According to the Italiani Coop 2018 report, e-commerce is the most dynamic segment of the Italian retail sector, with double-digit growth in turnover for the thirteenth consecutive year (+11%).
