Metro Group Launches Digital Start-up Programme

Metro Group is launching a new 'Accelerator For Retail powered by Techstars' scheme which will provide digital solutions for retailers, the company announced Wednesday.

The three-month programme will feature ten digital start-ups who have developed technological services and innovations, which simplify business processes or encourage customer engagement. Experts and mentors from Metro and hypermarket banner Real will help refine their business plan and establish them in the market.

The initiative will complement the existing Accelerator programme, which has been up and running for two years in the HoReCa sector.

"We are convinced that independent traders can strongly benefit from digital solutions – with regard to customer communication, new services and also in terms of their business operations," says Olaf Koch, chairman of the management board of Metro Group.

Startups from around the world can apply to participate in the programme between now and March 12, 2017. Applicants must fill out a questionnaire and can also submit a video. After an extensive interview process conducted entirely in English, including telephone and face-to-face interviews, a jury of mentors will choose the most promising teams.

The programme will kick off on June 12, 2017 in Berlin.
