Migros Introduces 'Little Italy' Section In Supermarkets

Swiss retailer Migros has introduced a dedicated section for Italian food products in its supermarkets in association with strategic partner, Atlante.

The 'Little Italy' section will offer around 45 products made by 12 producers representing the gastronomic specialties of northern, central and southern Italy.

The partnership between Atlante and Migros dates back to 2011, when the companies agreed to market Swiss products in Italy and export Italian products to Switzerland.

A Range Of Products

The products offered include extra-virgin olive oil from Puglia and Umbria, balsamic vinegar from Modena, different varieties of artisan egg pasta from the Marche region, and Kamut pasta produced in Lombardy.

The range includes Piedmont rice in various ready-made formats such as asparagus, truffles, and polenta accompanied by porcini mushrooms.

The condiments category features a selection of pestos, including hemp pesto, and tomato preserves combined with different ingredients.

The appetizer offering includes cream of Parmigiano Reggiano and truffles, olives in oil, sauces for bruschetta, dried tomatoes or chili peppers in oil from Calabria.

The 'Little Italy' section has been introduced in 87 Migros outlets across Switzerland. The retailer plans to extend it to other stores of the brand.

Authentic Products

The producers offering the products are strategic partners of Atlante, which ensures the authenticity and quality of the products.

Bologna-based Atlante is a strategic partner of main Italian and large-scale foreign retail distribution chains.

According to Atlante chief executive, Natasha Linhart, the project aims to "raise awareness of the quality and variety of Italian products abroad", with plans to export the Little Italy format to other markets.
