Sofidel Pledges To Cut Plastic Packaging By 50% By 2030

Tissue paper maker Sofidel has set a target to achieve a 50% reduction in the use of plastic in the packaging of its products by 2030.

It is equivalent to eliminating more than 11,000 tonnes of plastic from the market per year, the company said.

'Product Innovation'

Chief executive of Sofidel, Luigi Lazzareschi, described the decision as "a consistent and responsible choice," and called it "A commitment that falls within broader product innovation and differentiation strategy that we are pursuing."

Sofidel aims to introduce paper packaging to eliminate the equivalent of 600 tonnes of plastic a year from the packaging of its main European brands which include Regina, Cosynel, Nalys, Le Trèfle, Sopalin, and KittenSoft.

The new Rotoloni Regina line, and Rotoloni Regina Eco will be launched in Italy in July of this year.

The products will be packaged in kraft paper, which is a plant-based material that is renewable, biodegradable, and easy to recycle.
