Twenty Jobs Under Threat At Unilever Factory In Norwich

Twenty jobs at the Unilever-owned Colman's factory in Norwich are under threat, according to local reports. 

Unilever stated that it had initiated a 60-day review of its dry mixing operations at the factory but stressed however that as of yet no decisions have been taken on the positions. "We will now work closely with our employees to look at the options, including how we can work in partnership with our sister factory in Germany, to improve our competitiveness and ensure a sustainable future for the site", Unilever said.

"In the face of tough economic times, consumers continue to adapt their shopping habits and lifestyles. In light of this, Unilever needs to ensure our supply chain is as efficient and cost-effective as possible so that we can continue to offer products that consumers love at affordable prices."

Unilever, which acquired condiment maker Colman's in 1995, said that the review only affects its dry food manufacturing unit and not its units dedicated to condiments and mustard manufacturing. The historic Norwich factory employs 140 people. (27 June(
