Unilever Drops Lawsuit Against Just Mayo

Unilever has withdrawn its false advertising lawsuit claim against the maker of Just Mayo, according to reports.

The maker of Hellman’s mayonnaise had filed suit against Hampton Creek, the small California company that produces Just Mayo, on the basis that the name Just Mayo amounted to false advertising because being egg-free meant it could not be defined as mayonnaise.

According to reports, Unilever had argued that Just Mayo can’t be mayonnaise because it has no eggs, and that the it's rival was taking market share from Hellman’s.

Yesterday, according to media outlets, Unilever said that it decided to withdraw the lawsuit so that Hampton Creek can address its label directly with industry groups and regulatory authorities.

Just Mayo makers said it marketed its product as “mayo” to meet labelling regulations.
