San Benedetto Launches New 100% rPET Bottle

Italian non-alcoholic beverage firm Acqua Minerale San Benedetto has launched the new Ecogreen 1 litre Easy Bottle made from 100% recycled PET.

The initiative will result in a further 9% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions throughout the product life cycle by removing around 300 tonnes of virgin PET from its operations in 2021.

The launch of the new Ecogreen bottle from recycled PET was made possible following the adoption of a legislative amendment that permanently removed the restriction on the production of PET bottles with a maximum of 50% of RPET, the company said.

Enrico Zoppas, chairman and CEO of Acqua Minerale San Benedetto, commented, "We are proud of the environmental achievements of our group, thanks to a commitment that goes back a long way in the company's industrial history and which represents one of the strategic assets for our future development."

The San Benedetto Group also announced that it reduced CO2 emissions by 37,900 tonnes in 2019-2020.

Carbon-Neutral Mineral Water

In 2010, the bottled water supplier introduced the 1L Easy bottle – the first carbon-neutral mineral water format in the market.

Two years later, it launched the Ecogreen Line, a new generation of bottles made from up to 50% recycled plastic and offsetting CO2 emissions by 100% by purchasing credits to finance greenhouse gas reduction projects.

In the last seven years, San Benedetto reduced greenhouse gas emissions of the Ecogreen 1L Easy by 24.5% and of the entire Ecogreen line by 14.6%.

San Benedetto Mineral Water recently introduced the 'Twist & Drink' cap on the 0.5L bottles of the Ecogreen line.

The cap is attached to the bottle to prevent it from dispersing into the environment, facilitating recycling.
