Aldi To Source Mushrooms Worth €9m From Carlow-Based Supplier

Aldi Ireland has agreed to a new two-year deal with Carlow-based Codd Mushrooms that will see the business provide €9 million worth of mushrooms to Aldi stores.

Under the new contract, Codd Mushrooms will supply Aldi’s 133 Irish stores with 13.3 million packs of mushrooms, representing a volume growth of 600% between Aldi and the family-run business who first began supplying Aldi in 2007.

Uncertain Times

The deal comes at a time when the mushroom industry is dealing with the uncertainties surrounding Brexit.

The support from Aldi could not have come at a better time as the Carlow-based mushroom supplier, with a workforce of 250 employees, had also employed ten new full-time members of staff.

Managing director of Codd Mushrooms, Leslie Codd, welcomed the deal and said, “The certainty provided by our partnership with Aldi has helped us in not only growing our business but in developing a world-class production facility here in Tullow.

"We now plan to continue our growth into 2020 – secure in the knowledge that we have Aldi’s support," Codd added.

Aldi has sourced mushrooms from the company since 2007, and Aldi’s group buying director, John Curtin said the new deal "will further cement our already excellent working relationship"

Recently, Aldi also increased its support for small Irish suppliers by reducing its payment terms to 14 days for annual transactions amounting to €300,000.
