Ahold, Delhaize Call EGMs To Consider Merger

Ahold and Delhaize have announced that they have called extraordinary general meetings to vote on the proposed merger between the two retailers.

The EGMs will take place on 14 March. Ahold's will be held at Amsterdam RAI, while Delhaize Group's will be held at the Proximus Lounge in Brussels.

In June of 2015, Ahold and Delhaize Group announced their plan to merge, to create an international retailer with a large portfolio of local brands and 375,000 associates serving over 50 million customers each week across the US and Europe.

The two groups moved a step closer to completing the merger last month, after filing a registration statement with the US Securities and Exchange Commission.

The transaction is expected to be completed in mid-2016, after regulatory clearances, associate consultation procedures and shareholder approval.
