Ahold Delhaize Rejigs Southeastern Europe Management Teams

Ahold Delhaize has announced leadership changes at its operations in Romania and Greece, four days on from the appointment of Frans Muller as the retailer’s new group chief executive.

At Alfa Beta, the group’s Greek operations, Vassilis Stavrou will take on the role of brand president, succeeding Leonidas Vrettakos, who is retiring after 21 years.

Stavrou, currently the brand president at Mega Image in Romania, began his career at Alfa Beta in 1994, and held a number of senior roles at the business, including responsibility for logistics, quality assurance and HR.

He also served in a regional HR and sustainability position in Europe, prior to taking responsibility for the Mega Image brand in 2015.

Mega Image Position

At Mega Image, his role will be taken by Mircea Moga, currently SVP commercial and logistics at the retailer.

Mona has been with Mega Image since 1997 and has held a number of logistics, retail operations and IT roles. As Ahold Delhaize said in a statement, he has been ‘integral in the expansion of the brand, helping drive its growth from four stores when he started to more than 620 now’.

Both Stavrou and Moga will assume their positions on October 1.

Commenting on the retirement of Leonidas Vrettakos, Ahold Delhaize said, ‘Leonidas will be retiring from our company at the end of September. He has been an asset to Alfa Beta and Ahold Delhaize, playing a crucial role in steering Alfa Beta through the difficult Greek economy while leading it to the No. 1 position in the market.’

Frans Muller Appointment

Frans Muller was appointed the new chief executive of Ahold Delhaize on 1 July, following the retirement of Dick Boer.

On his appointment earlier this week, Muller put out the call to the group’s employees to assist him and his team with building a stronger business.

“We get even stronger by embracing change and use these opportunities to serve our customers and communities,” he said. “So, I like to hear from you how we can get better every day – whether you work in stores, in a distribution centre or any place at Ahold Delhaize. I want to invite you to help me lead our company into an even brighter future.”
