Ahold Delhaize has announced that its US-based brand Giant Food will invest €154 million ($175 million) toward the expansion and upgrading of its stores in Virginia, Delaware, Maryland, and Washington D.C.

The project will be carried out over the next two years and will include the launch of one new store in Fairfax in Virginia, and the remodelling of 24 other stores.

'Exceptional Experience'

"As the region's leading grocer, this announcement is part of our long-term commitment to deliver a consistently exceptional experience for our shoppers," said the brand president of Giant Food, Gordon Reid.

"We look forward to updating and enhancing our existing stores and constructing both new and replacement locations to give our shoppers a fresh and imaginative selection, unique in-store experiences and superior customer service."

Store Highlights

The remodelled stores will include full-service florists, natural and organic food departments, Asian food bars, and fresh-squeezed juice bars. It will also be equipped with state-of-the-art checkout zones, and full-service pharmacies.
