Albert Heijn Teams Up With 'Too Good To Go' To Combat Food Waste

Albert Heijn has teamed up with Too Good To Go, an app that seeks to discourage food waste by helping stores and restaurants sell products that would otherwise have to be thrown away.

Under the terms of the agreement, AH to go outlets will create 'Magic Boxes' of products that customers can buy at a reduced rate, comprised on what is left over on that particular day.

'Every order is a surprise,' Albert Heijn said in a statement, adding that this is a 'win-win-win situation for AH to go, customers and the environment'.

Each box will cost €4, and the value of the products therein will be €12, Albert Heijn said.

For stores, they too will log into the app and indicate how many Magic Boxes they wish to offer each day.

According to Too Good To Go, each year in the Netherlands between 1.7 million and 2.5 million tonnes of food is wasted, equating to around €145 per person per year.
