Albert Heijn To Set Up Mechanised Distribution Centre In Zaandam

Dutch retailer Albert Heijn is to establish a state-of-the-art distribution centre in Zaandam, which will implement new technologies to mechanise the handling of products, from their arrival at the centre to loading them for distribution.

The new facility will also enable the retailer to improve efficiency in loading delivery trucks, thereby cutting down on the number of vehicles on the road.

The new distribution centre also aims to improve the availability of products in Albert Heijn outlets by increasing the capacity of handling new products by 50%.

With the mechanised system in place, employees will have to lift fewer items.

It will also make the process of filling shelves easier, as the order of the stack in the mechanised system has been matched with the shelf layout.
