Albert Heijn Trials Hiku Smart Shopping Gadget

Dutch retailer Albert Heijn has announced that it is the first retailer in the Netherlands to trial the Hiku, a ‘smart’ fridge magnet used to make digital shopping lists.

The Hiku, which was recently reviewed on Cnet, has a microphone and a barcode scanner and connects to the user's wireless home network.

Customers can use it to save spoken messages, or scan barcodes of products they want to replace, to read back using their AH smartphone app or AH online account, when shopping.

According to the retailer, a recent customer survey found that more than 70% of customers use a list when shopping. The company has now invited a hundred customers to trial the Hiku for two months, for free, to see if they will find the gadget useful.
