Aldi Eyes Store Expansion In China

Discount retailer Aldi is reportedly looking to establish a physical store network in China, one year after setting up an online presence in the country.

According to Lebensmittel Zeitung, the company is currently putting together a team of managers with European retail experience, and plans to open around fifty branches in the next few years.

Online Expansion

Aldi first entered the Chinese market last March, offering its products on Tmall - the e-commerce platform from online retail giant Alibaba.

The retailer is currently selling a range of German products online, including wine, snacks and breakfast products, which are sourced from its Australian suppliers.

Stores in China would be operated by Aldi Süd, which also has branches in Germany, Australia, Austria, the UK, Ireland, Hungary, Italy, Slovenia, Switzerland and the US.
