Aldi Launches Upmarket Wine Range

In the UK, Aldi has added a new viticultural range, the Lot Series, to its portfolio, comprised of four wines.

The initiative is designed to attract middle-class wine-drinkers who would traditionally shop in retailers such as Marks & Spencer and Waitrose.  The wines retail at £9.99, twice the average price of ordinary Aldi wines.

The range is comprised of three New World wines, and one Old World wine: an Argentinian Malbec-Cabernet, a Chilean Sauvignon Blanc, a Chardonnay from Tasmania, and a red blend of unlisted varieties from the Languedoc-Roussillon in France.

Jean-Claude Mas, the maker of the last of these, commented, “The decision to collaborate with Aldi was an easy one, as I have kept a keen eye on its budding reputation as a top-quality wine merchant over the last few years.”
