Aldi Süd Opens 500th 'Branch Of The Future' In Memmingen
German retailer Aldi Süd has opened a new ‘Filiale der Zukunft’ (branch of the future) in Memmingen, Bavaria, making it the 500th store with this concept.
Since May 2016, the retailer has reconstructed more than a quarter of its 1,870 outlets in Germany, and it is planning to refurbish all of its stores by the end of 2019.
New Store Concept
The new supermarket in Memmingen combines a new design with a traditional store structure on 952 square meters of sales space. Part of the new concept is a rearrangement of the products, with fruits and vegetables now available at the back of the store, which allows customers to take more time when choosing a product.
“We are happy to open the 500th store with this new concept. All of our three outlets in Memmingen are now converted. This is an important milestone for us,” said Eike Jähnert, sales director of Aldi's regional subsidiary Altenstadt.
