Aldi Süd Receives Award For Responsible Sourcing

German retailer Aldi Süd has received an award for excellence in responsible sourcing from the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Nachhaltigkeit (German Society for Sustainability).

The retailer was awarded the prize for its responsible use of resources and its efforts to improve social and environmental standards along the supply chain.

Sustainability Strategy

"Aldi Süd has set itself the goal of not letting customers decide between 'sustainable' and 'conventional' products, but to make the entire product range sustainable," said Dr. Julia Adou, the retailer's head of corporate responsibility.

The company's sustainability strategy includes sourcing ecologically-produced foodstuffs, including a broad range of vegetarian and vegan products. It also has sustainable purchasing policies in place in the areas of fish, palm oil, wood, coffee, cocoa and tea.

As well as these supply chain goals, the company also has sustainability targets for its stores. Earlier this year, Aldi Süd announced its plans to become Germany's first major climate-neutral retailer.
