Aldi UK Begins Selling Japanese Sake

Discount retailer Aldi has begun selling sake in its UK stores to capitalise on the growing market for the Japanese rice wine in Britain.

The Sawanotsuru Sake, imported from Nada-ku, Kobe, retails at £3.99 for a 330ml bottle, and will be available in all of the grocer’s UK stores. It features as part of the Aldi Specialbuys Asian cuisine range.

Growing Demand

Tony Baines, joint managing director of corporate buying at Aldi, said, “In the UK, demand for Japanese cuisine is growing and we wanted to make it easy and accessible for people to enjoy Japanese culture at home".

“We pride ourselves on offering consumers with all sorts of tastes and backgrounds a chance to enjoy quality wines and spirits at great prices, and we believe this sake will be a big hit.”
