Aldi’s UK operation has announced that it will be looking to appoint approximately 4,000 extra personnel as it expands its store estate to 1,000 outlets by 2022.
The majority of the roles are for store assistance, assistant store managers and deputy store managers. Aldi has said that it will offer a minimum wage of £8.53 nationally and £9.75 if they work in London, which is ‘significantly higher’ than the national living wage of £7.20 per hour.
Surge In Sales
The discounter is experiencing a ‘surge in sales after welcoming more than 900,000 new customers in the last year’, an Aldi press release said.
"The success of Aldi in the UK is due to the hard work and commitment of our employees, and they are crucial to our future expansion plans,” said Matthew Barnes, Aldi UK and Ireland chief executive.
"Our approach is to recruit the best people in retail and invest in their long-term career development to ensure they operate in an environment where they feel engaged, motivated and challenged."
Earlier this year, Aldi UK opened its 700th store in the country, as well as a new distribution centre in Cardiff. In May, it was revealed that Aldi and Lidl are growing at the fastest rate since 2015, in the UK market.
