Amazon To Expand Warehouse And Delivery Network In Europe

Amazon is set to create several thousands of new jobs in Europe, including 2,500 of them in Britain alone, as part of its expansion plans in the region.

According to Reuters.com, the jobs come as part of the company’s investment in expanding its warehouses and delivery network in Europe, along with its R&D capabilities, and building new infrastructure to support its cloud-computing business.

"We are seeing stronger demand than ever from our customers all across Europe, and we see lots more opportunity across Amazon's businesses to invent and invest for the future," commented vice president of Amazon EU retail, Xavier Garambois.

Amazon enjoyed record Christmas trading in Europe across the 2015 festive season, and put significant pressure on Britain’s established supermarkets in November with the launch of a packaged groceries service for members of Amazon Prime in the UK.

While the move has been described as online retailer's most ambitions foray into Britain’s emerging online grocery market, it hasn’t quite replicated its US Amazon Fresh service, which currently offers nearly 20,000 chilled, frozen and perishable products.
