Packaging Firm Ardagh Transitions Steel Plant To Aluminium

Ardagh, the Irish-based packaging company, has announced it has completed the conversion of its plant in Rugby, England from steel to aluminium in order to provide more recyclable alternatives in the packaging industry.

This conversion makes it the second Ardagh plant in the UK that is now ready to produce highly-efficient aluminium, according to the company.

Speaking about the conversion, Oliver Graham, CEO of Ardagh Metal Beverage highlighted the importance of offering more choice to customers, “Operating two highly-efficient aluminium beverage can plants in the UK, at Wrexham and Rugby, supported by our recent investment in our Deeside ends plant, positions Ardagh to offer leading beverage customers greater choice and flexibility in future.”

This announcement comes as the company recently announced it was investing in its Moroccan facility for steel seafood can production, as well as announcing the opening of a new facility in Manaus, Brazil earlier this month.

This new plant is likely to play a key part in growing Ardagh's global ambitions as a recent switch to aluminium in China fuels global demand for metals.
