Arla Foods has appointed Helène Gunnarson as its new vice-chairman, following after the recent nomination of Jan Toft Nørgaard as the company's new chairman.
Gunnarson, from Tvååker, Sweden, has been an elected representative at Arla Foods since 2000, and a dairy farmer since 1997.
She is also chairman of the Swedish Area Council and the Organic Committee.
Speaking about her appointment she said, “I am honoured to be appointed as vice-chairman of Arla Foods. I look forward to continuing work on strengthening our position for the benefit of all 11,200 farmer owners across all seven countries."
Familiar Face
Gunnarson will be a familiar face for Nørgaard, as the pair has worked together for the past decade.
According to the new chairman, “On the board of directors, Heléne and I have worked closely together for 10 years and I know that we will complement each other well and be a strong team. We will continue to focus on creating growth and a strong cooperative for future generations of milk producers together with the rest of the board of directors.”
The pair will have to face challenges at the group, which recently announced it had to make 350 jobs redundant in a move to 'streamline' its operations, as well as commit to a cost-cutting programme in order to save €400 million euros by the end of 2020, due to the impact of Brexit.
